For 50 years, millions of guests have visited and enjoyed the magnificence and beauty of the 14,000 acres that comprise Callaway - a place founded by Cason J. Callaway and his wife, Virginia Hand Callaway, who believed that the most interesting ideas are "concieved in superlatives, big in scope, impressive in appearance and in some way connected with the improvement of mankind." However, few know the significance of the Callaway Gardens Country Store and its specialty foods in Callaway's history.
The Country Store was one of the original buildings when the Gardens opened in 1952, and it served as an outlet for the products from the farms of Cason Callaway. Today this old- fashioned store, atop Pine Mountain, is Callaway's most popular retail outlet. Its nostalgic charm, coupled with unique food products, and home decor items, lend to its appeal.
The items most sought from the Country Store are truly southern; Speckled Heart™Stone-Ground Grits and Muscadine Preserves, Jelly and Sauce. Our speckled Heart Grits are made from whole grain corn, including the heart of the kernel. Our Muscadine products, including our exclusive Muscadine Sauce, are produced in our preserve plant just as they were years ago.
The Country Store symbolizes a connection with the past, and Callaway's commitment to environmental education and land stewardship ensuring Cason Callaway's dream remains a reality.
Callaway Gardens is located in Pine Mountain, Georgia, just 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus.
