The Colavita family traces its roots to the small town of Sant'Elia a Pianisi, about twenty miles to the east of Campobasso in the Molise region of Italy. It was there, four generations ago, that Giovanni Colavita founded the family olive oil tradition and Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil was born.
Situated near the border of Apulia, Italy's largest olive growing region, Sant'Elia was a fitting birthplace for this true Italian olive oil. Over the years, the Colavita family became masters at the delicate crafts of "tasting" and blending extra virgin oils from different types of olives grown in Apulia and nearby regions. This skill enabled the family to produce 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil with a consistent fine quality - a skill that sets Colavita apart today from the other leading brands in the United States.
Since the inception of the Colavita family brand, product quality has been the company's top priority. The company's efforts to maintain strict quality standards have been recognized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) that has found Colavita to be in compliance with the ISO 9002 quality system. Furthermore, the Italian government, through the CERMET organization, granted Colavita the much-coveted ability to declare "Certified Authentic Product of Italy" on its extra virgin olive oil labels. This seal assures consumers worldwide that Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil is obtained exclusively from Italian olives, generally regarded as the source of the finest olive oils in the world.
Today, the company remains firmly grounded in its roots with production facilities in Sant'Elia and Campobasso. A facility in nearby Pomezia was recently acquired, giving the company the added capability to share its products, including organic, flavored and Novello extra virgin olive oils, throughout the world.
